While many advances have been made in the world of gaming, things are still quite lacking when it comes to cross platform play. Being able to play cross platform means you can play online with friends that have different consoles. For instance, PC gamers would be able to seamlessly play with Xbox or PS4 players in the same world.
When it comes to Monster Hunter, one of the biggest questions is whether you can play with others on a different console. The game is just a heck of a lot more fun when you can explore the vast open world of crazy monsters with friends. The newest edition to the series allows you to seamlessly transition between single player and multiplayer coop modes, where players can initiate various types of missions and form parties of up to four.
Unfortunately, Monster Hunter World is not a cross platform game, meaning players are locked into playing with those on the same platform. It’s also unclear if Monster Hunter World will ever introduce crossplay between platforms.
In an interview with PC Gamer, developer Ryozo Tsujimoto stated that while he would like to sync up the game between consoles, technical differences may prevent this from happening. For instance, balance patches would have to happen on a case-by-case basis, and if issues arise on one console but not another, they’d have to spend a lot of time bug fixing.
The time for cross platform gaming may not be too far off in the future. For now, though, we’ll just have to make do with what we can.
