The new Pokemon Sword and Shield game has taken evolving Pokemon to the next level. Whereas in previous games, your Pokemon would typically just evolve once they hit a certain level or you used a Stone on them, Sword and Shield sometimes requires you to go through a number of steps in order to evolve your Pokemon. This is especially true for certain Galarian forms.
Here’s how to catch and evolve a Galarian Yamask in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
How to Catch a Galarian Yamask
You can find Galarian Yamasks in Route 6 on the little desert road just before Stow-on-Side. They’ll usually be visible amongst the tall grass in any weather condition. Wild Yamasks are typically level 30+ and can be caught with a simple Quick Ball or Great Ball.
How to Evolve Galarian Yamask Into Runerigus
While Yamask would normally evolve into Cofagrigus at level 34, the Galarian form instead evolves into Runerigus. And the evolution process is fairly complex. Here’s how to do it:
- Get your Yamask to 1 HP. The easiest way to do this is to get into a battle and have your Yamask hold a Focus Sash. This will prevent him from fainting in one hit and drop him to 1 HP. Then use a Poke Doll to guarantee you escape from the fight.
- Go to Dusty Bowl. Head back to the Wild Area and walk underneath the arch stone formation (pic below). Yamask will start to evolve!
- Enjoy your new Runerigus!
